The club is delighted to encourage you and your friends or families participation in the game; on this, what we consider to be one of Fifes finest parkland courses. Please take part in the opportunities provided for junior golf, get involved where you can help others and have fun – enjoying the game and club facilities respectfully at all times
A variety of opportunities are provided to take part as set out:
The club welcomes junior participation at all levels and whether competitive or non-competitive in nature. In that respect, a variety of opportunities and formats are provided, as outlined below. Please get involved in each or any as suits – ask if you need any advice!
1. Scottish Golf Sixes League – played on dates TBC from April through to August.
This generally has Balbirnie placed in a cohort with other clubs in the central Fife area. Matches are played over a 6-hole format at around 150yrds per hole. The team generally comprises juniors aged between 6 - 11 years and/or those below max handicap allowance.
2. Scottish Golf Flag Championship – played during allocated ‘junior’ tee times or as otherwise booked via Club tee booking system.
Culminating in a ‘regional’ qualifier event by Scottish Golf, this provides opportunities for juniors of all ages to get use to ‘keeping score’ in a strokeplay format. The target is to get as far out on the golf course each round using a maximum of 36 strokes. In doing so the junior/s plant their ‘flag’ marker (provided) and keep a photo and scorecard record.
3. Skills Challenge – incorporated within junior coaching sessions and run monthly.
A series of fun practice drills and shot sequences set and taught by the Pro/s or Scottish Golf Activators during weekly junior coaching sessions. These provide a target and ‘benchmark’ to allow juniors to stay motivated and to see progression across the season.
4. Junior Club Medal Competition/s – scheduled weekly and played during allocated ‘junior’ tee times or as otherwise booked via Club tee booking system. This season sees the inclusion of some differing formats and events to encourage inclusivity and participation across Balbirnie Park Golf Club.
Care and Conduct
It is respectfully reminded that all participants taking part in junior golf events should be ambassadors for Balbirnie Park golf club and the game - wherever they are on the course or in clubhouse. This is in line with the code of conduct agreed to in accepting membership.
Juniors under the age of 10 years must wherever practical always be accompanied on the golf course by a peer or responsible adult. Please advise the pro shop if this is not practical as it may be possible to arrange ‘buddying’ during the allocated ‘junior’ tee times’.
Balbirnie Park Golf club endeavours to provide a safe and welcoming environment for those learning or developing the game of golf. Professional coaching is provided via Scott Gillespie PGA and support given to him and his team via trained Scottish Golf volunteer ‘activators’. Other support is always welcome, particularly at/around event and competition dates.
The club also have a designated ‘safeguarding’ officer, our former Club Captain, Mr Kevin Williamson.
